Ramblin' Mics was inspired by the many great Open Mics in Houston. After having attended and assisted with Open Mics for several years an opportunity arose to host my own. Being in awe of the level of music talent in Houston and having everything in place I sought out new venues for Acoustic Music Open Mics. Hence Ramblin' Mics was born.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Josal, TC Smythe, Mark Zeus, Willie B, SAABO, Jeff Shreiber, and the many other gracious open mic host that have gone before me. It is because of them that I am able to be a part of the remarkable Live Music Scene in Houston Texas.
1 - Call Before You Haul: Call the venue and verify that the open mic is still going on. Open mics and venues can change schedules or close down without warning.
2 - Arrive prepared: Show up with your own instrument, and accessories. Some open mics have gear to loan, but don't show up expecting that.
3 - Respect the rules and customs: There are many ways to run an open mic. Each host decides what is best for the venue and participants. Honor those guidelines. They are there for a reason.
4 - Respect the other musicians. Listen to them as you would want them to listen to you. Come early, stay late, and support the venue.
